The West Des Moines Lacrosse Club (WDMLAX) was organized in 2008 and is the first youth lacrosse organization in Iowa. WDMLAX is a 501c3 non-profit, all-volunteer organization and is overseen by a board of directors. The club fields several teams at the boys’ and girls’ high school as well as middle school levels. Players come from all over the Des Moines metro and from many different schools. The club is open to all.
The lacrosse season typically runs from February through May with games beginning in March. The club also offers opportunities to participate in the sport in the fall but requiring less of a time commitment as some players are involved in other fall sports. Several practices are held in September and October culminating in some scrimmages with other central Iowa teams. The boys’ high school teams compete in the Nebraska High School Lacrosse League against teams from the Omaha, Lincoln and central Iowa areas. The girls’ high school teams compete in the Midwest High School Girls Lacrosse League against teams mostly in the Omaha area. The boys’ and girls' middle school teams compete primarily against the same programs as well as playing other teams from surrounding states.
WDMLAX provides its players with a chance to grow on and off the field as well as developing life-long relationships and love for the game. Every effort is made to provide our teams with the best facilities, equipment and most qualified staff available. Coaches will teach the specific skills necessary for improvement as a lacrosse player and provide guidance in the development of self-realization, good sportsmanship, cooperation, leadership, ethical behavior, and an appreciation for the importance of practice and a strong work ethic.
